Jason Wat - Director of Agency Operations Management

Jason Wat, currently the Director of Agency Operations Management, has recently received the honor of  “Stars of Excellence”, for contributing his superior knowledge, striving to uphold highest ethical practices and constantly going beyond the call of duty to fulfill customer needs. Jason’s career started with Manulife back in 1997, as a management trainee, right after he graduated from Actuarial Science of the University of Toronto.  Jason recalls, “Over the past years of service, my experience and business skills gradually

increase with my rotations in various departments.”  From Actuarial unit to Group Life & Health department, Customer Call Centre, Individual Financial Products, Marketing & Strategic Development, Employee Benefits … just to name a few.  

“I’m now having a totally new experience at the front of the business --- assisting one of our Agency Directors to supervise approximately one-third of the fast-growing agency force.”  Jason continues, “Looking back, the management trainee program truly builds and broadens my exposure in the financial protection and wealth creation business.  The skills I learned through the rotations undoubtedly contribute to good decision making, business judgment and interpersonal relationships.  Yet, different assignments and projects helped to unleash my inner potential. ”

When being asked for his secrets to success, Jason replies “The development opportunities I had.” he continues, “I think it would be a little absurd for one to expect opportunity to come naturally.  Rather than sit and wait, you better seek and earn.  Earn them by demonstrating your commitment, determination and ability.  Manulife is clearly a place that fosters ideas and gives room for everyone to stretch their ability in resolving issues, improving performance as well as creating better business models for tomorrow.  In this open setting, it’s not hard for me to take the initiative and show my courage in sharing my views and bold ideas.  Don’t be afraid if it is not a perfect one, as oftentimes a not so ideal idea may inspire a brilliant idea.  Every contribution counts!”

“All in all, this MT program enlightens talented individuals and brings out the best of their career.”  The assignments and projects are stretching, but Jason puts all of these in another angle with ease. “I always remind myself early on that I must take the ownership and initiative while the company provides me with the very best platform.  I am sure this is true for everyone as it is for me.” Finally, he adds, “I take pride in being a Manulifer, and glad that I had joined their MT program.  This is definitely a rewarding once-in-a-lifetime career move that I had.”
