Canadian-based Manulife Financial has been conducting business in Hong Kong for more than one hundred years. Following is a brief chronology of the Company's history in Hong Kong.

Manulife launches the following innovative individual financial products to suit customers’ needs in financial saving, wealth accumulation and medical protection:
Manulife’s MPF services maintains the highest overall level of satisfaction among employees and self-employed MPF scheme members in a customer-satisfaction survey conducted by Marketing Decision Research (Pacific) Ltd. Web service is extended to Manulife’s Employee Benefits' group insurance customers (employers), enabling them to manage their accounts online, such as managing employee records, viewing account information and accessing benefit schedules and panel doctor list.
Manulife conducts the first comprehensive customer satisfaction research measured against competitors in all key business lines and Manulife ranks first in its wealth management, individual insurance and MPF services.
‘Manulife’ is a proven top brand in consumers’ eyes, as evidenced by the various prestigious industry awards that the Company takes home in the year:
The Next Magazine's Top Service Award for both the Insurance Company and MPF Service categories
Manulife is voted the top insurance company in the "Yahoo! Emotive Brand Awards”.
Overwhelming volunteers participation in the Walks for Millions earns Manulife the "Challenge Cup - Overall Top Fund-raiser" and the "Top Fund-raiser of the New Territories Walk" awards from the Community Chest of Hong Kong.
Winning the Hong Kong Council of Social Service "Caring Company" title for two years in a row
Manulife Charitable Foundation donates HK$720,000 to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to support the Cancer Patient Resource Centre at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Taking part in the “Qile Charity Cake Drive" for the third consecutive year to raise funds for improving elderly-care services in Hong Kong.
Manulife starts a strategic bancassurance alliance with CITIC Ka Wah Bank and makes available its "Guaranteed Retirement Income Plan" and "Manulife Investment Solutions" at the Bank's branches in Hong Kong.
Manulife ranks second in the Hong Kong MPF market, based on assets under master trusts as at December 31, 2004. Its group life and health insurance business is awarded the ISO 9001 accreditation, reflecting its high level of service quality and professionalism.
In 2005, Manulife continues to introduce various products to offer customers more choices.
Two popular financial protection products being:
"Premier Life Hospital Benefit" targets pre-retirees, with guaranteed protection up to 100 years old. It features a senior hospitalization major medical benefit, level premium and comprehensive medical expenses coverage.
"Flexi Retirement Contribution" facility is introduced to supplement mandatory retirement savings for MPF members.
Manulife offers ManuChoice+ Medical Plan for employees of small-to-medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong. It is a voluntary self-contribution plan extending coverage for employees and their families.
Manulife’s strong brand is continuously recognised by the public in the year with the following awards:
For the second consecutive year, Manulife is recipient of the Reader’s Digest "Superbrand Gold Award" in insurance category in Hong Kong.
Manulife tops the Yahoo! Emotive Brand Award for the second consecutive year.
Manulife is the only life-insurance company in Hong Kong to receive the Web Care Award by Internet Professional Association, with its user-friendly website and barrier-free internet services.
Three of Manulife’s mutual funds have earned seven awards from Lipper-A Reuters Company and South China Morning Post.
Manulife is committed to supporting community services, and its effort in encouraging voluntarism among its staff and insurance/financial advisors has won the :
Merit Award of Highest Service Hour Award (Private Organization - Category 1), given by the Social Welfare Department.
Being the principal sponsor of the Hong Kong Red Cross's Humanity Campaign – Manulife honours 150 Manulife Humanity Ambassadors and backs up a series of campaigns that encourages the community to respect life, protect dignity and bring hope to others in their everyday lives.
By sponsoring the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong’s "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2005", Manulife supports the course for promoting sports development in Hong Kong.
For three years in a row, Manulife is awarded the "Caring Company" title from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
Manulife Charitable Foundation renews its sponsorship to the Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities from 2005 to 2007.
In 2006, Manulife brings to market several new individual financial products that cater to customers’ financial protection and saving needs:
“Platinum One” – a single-premium, whole-life savings plan that features dividend accumulation and guaranteed cash value payment.
“MY Premier Lady’s Benefit” – a supplementary benefit for female customers covering eight critical and 13 common female illnesses/treatments, with premium refund feature.
"Premier Retirement Income Plan" provides a guaranteed retirement income for 20 years, with options of fixed-time withdrawals or a complete rollover, to ensure a stable income. It also features a long-term care income equal to 100% of the monthly guaranteed retirement income if mishaps occur.
As one of the leading MPF service providers, Manulife adds a new Manulife MPF China Value Fund to the Manulife Global Select (MPF) Scheme, bringing more fund choices to MPF members.
Three top-performing Manulife funds winning six prestigious fund industry awards, including the Lipper Fund Awards and SCMP Fund Manager of the Year Awards, have showcased the strong investment expertise of Manulife’s global and regional investment teams.

Being the Life-Insurance Partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Manulife launches the "Olympic Games Pin Design Contest" with "Bringing your dreams to life" theme, to promote and share the Olympic spirit. Manulife Hong Kong is the first territory to roll out the Asia-wide contest.
Leveraging on this Olympics partnership, Manulife also supports local elite athletes in preparing for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with a million-dollar sports scholarship program, jointly organised with the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong (SF&OC, HK). Manulife also sponsors SF&OC, HK’s "Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2006" to recognise outstanding athletes in Hong Kong and encourage them to strive for excellence.
Manulife Charitable Foundation continues to fund The Chinese University of Hong Kong's cancer-patient counselling service at the Prince of Wales Hospital Cancer Patient Resource Centre. The sponsorship will give support to the Centre from 2006 to 2008.
Efforts in fulfilling corporate citizenship sees Manulife receiving the "Caring Company" title for four consecutive years from the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
Staff voluntarism and overwhelming support in the Community Chest “Walks for Millions” also bring Manulife two awards - the "Challenge Cup - Overall Top Fund-raiser" and the "Top Fund-raiser for Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk" from the Community Chest of Hong Kong in 2005/2006. Manulife is named the Overall Top Fund-raiser for five years in a row.
