As an active and caring corporate citizen in Hong Kong, Manulife is committed to supporting various community services, and encourages our employees and insurance/financial advisors to participate in volunteer work for the betterment of the community. We work to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged group and help them to realize their dreams.

Manulife Charitable Foundation In 1998, Manulife Charitable Foundation was established to provide support to charitable activities for the betterment of public welfare in Hong Kong. Its core interests are in children and health related charitable programs and community services. Throughout the years, we have established long-term relationship with a number of organizations to implement extensive programs to support the less fortunate people. Here are the thoughts of our partners. Since 2002, Manulife has been awarded the Caring Company Title by the Hong Kong Council of Social Services for our ongoing commitment to the community. Below are some of the charity projects supported by the Foundation: Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities Since 1999, the Manulife Charitable Foundation has been the sole sponsor of the Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities (MCCSLD) in the Department of Applied Social Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Centre has received a total of HK$8 million commitment from Manulife Charitable Foundation from 1999 onwards in support of its holistic development, and provision of research and professional services. MCCSLD's mission is to take a leading role in the holistic development of children with specific learning disabilities in reading, writing, and/or language difficulties, through providing academic and professional services such as assessment, training and counseling. Manulife-Canadian International School Scholarship Program Being committed to the future of Hong Kong, Manulife has been offering the renewable Manulife-Canadian International School Scholarships to the children of its customers since 1997. The Scholarships provide talented children with a chance to study in a first-class international school. Supporting the health care needs of unfortunate children To reinforce our commitment in supporting the health care and special learning needs of children, about HK$800,000 was donated to Heep Hong Society to set up a Sensory Integrative (SI) Room at its Mary Wong Centre in Kwun Tong and a Musical-Movement and Play Therapy Room at Cheung Ching Estate in Tsing Yi. These rooms equip with special designed facilities for climbing, swinging, sliding, landing and tactile simulation, which help children with sensory-processing problems to overcome their handicap through the globally recognised technique of SI therapy. Manulife has also supported the "Meal-Subsidy Plan" of Hong Chi Association to provide mentally handicapped children from low income families with free lunch meals. The company has also donated a gym room to its Morninghill School in Tuen Mun to support the wellbeing of the less fortunate children. We instigated a One Dream Charity Program to raise funds for the Children's Thalassaemia Foundation during the Beijing Olympic Games period. Manulife Charitable Foundation donated HK$1 to the charity upon receiving a dream from browsers online, aiming to help the thalassaemia patients and their family. Bringing young dreams to life We sponsored equestrian summer training courses for youngsters of the Changing Young Lives Foundation and the Children's Thalassaemia Foundation in the summer of 2007 and 2008, enabling them to enjoy a never-to-be-forgotten experience of horse-riding. The activities were designed to give underprivileged children in Hong Kong a basic knowledge of horse-riding, heighten their awareness of equestrianism and widen exposure in different activities. Supporting Hong Kong Cancer Fund Manulife cares strongly for the wellbeing of the community. We have been supporting Hong Kong Cancer Fund for many years. The Company has been a sponsor of Stride for A Cure, an annual fund raising charity walk, for a decade. In 2008, we were a Diamond Sponsor of its Pink Revolution campaign to raise fund and promote breast cancer awareness in the community. Donation to CUHK's Cancer Patient Counselling Service Since 2004, Manulife Charitable Foundation has donated more than HK$1.4 million to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to support its Cancer Patient Resource Centre at the Prince of Wales Hospital, for its cancer patient counselling service. The Cancer Patient Resource Centre was set up in January 2003 with a mandate to provide psychological counselling and support programs for cancer patients of the New Territories East district. Through this donation, Manulife hopes to raise public awareness towards depression among cancer patients, so that their emotional problems can be detected and addressed early. Caring for the well being of the elderly To show our care to the senior citizens, company staff volunteers visit elderly centres and residential homes regularly. The Foundation has also donated automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the elderly homes of The Hong Kong Society for the Aged (SAGE). These advanced life-saving devices are portable and easy to use by non-medical staff with the proper training, giving the elderly greater peace of mind to enjoy life. SAGE is the first charity in Hong Kong to have the AEDs installed at elderly homes. Operation Santa Claus Manulife has been sponsoring the annual SCMP / RTHK Operation Santa Claus since 2004, raising funds for charitable organisations, and sharing seasonal joy and warmth with the less fortunate in the festive season. Through the years, we have supported Senior Citizen Home Safety Association, Helping Hand, the Children's Thalassaemia Foundation, Lions Kidney Educational Centre and Research Foundation, and etc.
